- Dry skin does not produce enough oil, the follicles are usually small. Dry skin is more sensitive because the acid mantle and barrier function is not as healthy. You should use products that contain Occlusive which helps keep the skin moisten and protects the skin top barrier layer.
- Normal skin has a very good oil-water balance, it's usually free of blemishes. Maintenance and preventative care is the goal for this skin type.
- Combination skin can be both oily and dry, or both oily and normal. Combination skin is easy to tell because its T-Zone(Forehead, nose and chin)is oilier. To maintain this skin type, use products that are water based. Regular exfoliation and deep cleaning is essential. It will keep the skin clear and minimize the blemishes.
- Oily skin is extremly oily and high in blemishes. This skin type does require more cleansing and exfoliation. However over exfoliating and cleansing can make matters worse and irritate the skin. The postive side of having oily skin is that it ages slower. Oily skin may require professional care more than normal skin. Water based products works best for this type of skin.
- Sensitive skin is characterized by fragile, thin skin and redness, it irritates easily by heat and sun exposure. Excessive rubbing, heat, strong exfoliation and extractions can cause damage and increase redness. Soothing and calming the skin is the goal. If you have this skin type my advice is go see a dermatologist or an esthetician for best care.
